It might not have been very spring-like outside, but it was a very cheery, colourful session indoors making lovely spring paper flowers. A very creative group of students!
Thanks to Amy who led our bird box making workshop down at the Thatcham Discovery Centre. The sun came out and we all got busy putting them together. Let’s hope the Blue Tits move in soon and get nesting. It was a lovely atmosphere and a great example of the Recovery in Mind ‘tribe’ getting together and sharing a feeling of connection. Thanks also to Martin, Amy’s partner, who made all of the Bird Box kits.
Our students got together to create some fantastic artwork in our recent Winter Creativity session. Turning to creativity has been proven in extensive research to relieve both stress and anxiety and lift low mood.
When we are creating something, whether it’s a software program, graffiti, or a quilt, we tend to get lost in that activity. The act of creating requires focus and concentration, we call this state of creativity, “flow.” A feeling of peace, calm and happiness.
“I’m really happy to be joining as a Peer Trainer and am super excited to be working with such an amazing team. As a student, joining the Recovery In Mind ‘Tribe’ has and continues to be a huge and irreplaceable part of my own recovery. To have the opportunity to be part of other peoples journey is a privilege to which I’m looking forward.”
Recovery in Mind attended the Greenfest community event on Saturday 10th September in the village of Hampstead Norreys. The event was focused on the environment and wellbeing. Both Lynette and Nick joined Cath, Fiona and myself. We ran some Breathing Workshops in our aptly called, ‘Zen Den’, encouraged children to plant some microgreens to take home and chat to people about our courses and the support we offer. It was a delight to meet so many people from West Berkshire and beyond. We already have a few people we met on the day attending courses. Welcome to you and thanks to the team for all their hard work on what turned out to be a long day.
