Anxiety is a normal healthy reaction which happens to everyone at times of danger or in worrying situations and will then often improve your performance enabling you to react faster. Sadly anxiety can become a problem when it interferes with your performance or everyday lives. This is when it is necessary to learn how to control or manage it. You are invited to listen to this sound recording of a ‘Progressive Muscular Relaxation’ session which is about 14 minutes in length. It will explain the importance of relaxation and take you through a short session. With regular practice one can learn to calm oneself down and take back control.

Some lovely feedback from one of the artists upstairs…
‘I love your exhibition that’s up at the Base! I can’t find the words and feelings that describe it, ‘moving’ isn’t adequate…..but it’s excellent and I’m so glad it’s up…..and that bit by bit mental health is being talked about and learned about more.’
Autumn Creativity
There were some fantastic achievements at the Autumn Creativity session led by Sarah this week. Some fabulous shaped pumpkins were used as inspiration.
A student testimonial:-
‘I felt totally lost and Recovery in Mind courses have helped me find my way on a journey. I can highly recommend it!’
Published article by Angela
Thank you to Newbury Today and Out&About for publishing another article written by Angela.
Here Angela talks about the effects of Covid-19 on ALL of us, how communities have come together like never before and how having the right learnt skills have helped her and over 300 of our students cope with these challenging times.
Stage 3 – Walk & Talk
Thank you to all of you who attended our first ‘Walk & Talk’ sessions at Shaw House grounds on Wednesday. We were delighted to be able to welcome you back to a ‘face to face’ session by meeting together in person after all this time!
We had a wonderful morning re-connecting with one another; reflecting on and reviewing the past six months; and considering how we continue moving forward in our recovery. And while doing this we enjoyed the beautiful grounds of Shaw House, with the added unexpected bonus of an outdoor sculpture exhibition (all free of charge and there until the end of the month – well worth a visit!)
We will continue meeting there on Wednesday mornings during September and October, with one session for students joining ‘Walk & Talk’ for the first time, and another for those who would like to return for more. We look forward to seeing you there!

Soothing Rhythm Breathing
This 16 minute ‘soothing rhythm breathing’ exercise follows on from the ‘Mindful Attention session’. Having focussed your mind on your breath, you can develop this further by establishing a calm, soothing breathing pattern, and continue to practise and build on your self-compassion skills.
